EA Black Box tarafından geliştirilip Electronic Arts tarafından 2004 Mayıs ayında yayımlanmıştır. Underground'dan sonra çıkmış olup Need for Speed serisinin bir parçasıdır. GameCube PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advanceve PC için çıkarılmıştır. Underground'ın devamı niteliği taşımaktadır.
